Consultancy

When it comes to beginning a new garden or permaculture projest, deciding on a sustainable land use strategy, or planning a lifestyle change, getting the correct counsel at the appropriate time can make all the difference. We are able to assist you in idea exploration, context analysis, and resource utilisation. In this, the following is possible:
• Preliminary client questionnaire
• Site walk & talk
• Soil assessment
• Site survey (microclimates, topography, vegetation, biodiversity, water)
• Discussion and enquiry
• Consultancy report

Online Consultation

As an alternative, we provide video conferenced online consultations. This is more of a casual conversation about your project, whether it be a backyard garden for your home or a new business venture, as it does not entail a site visit.

Design Service

For those managing or setting up home or commercial land systems, we provide a design service. We engage with clients to co-create a system that will provide the necessary outputs in their unique setting using the permaculture design method. The steps are typically:
• Client Interview
• Site Survey
• Phase of Evaluation
• Design Proposals and Implementation Plan

We have experience working on a wide range of projects, from smallholdings to eco-housing developments and country estates, but we concentrate in small whole-farm systems and forest gardens.

Our goal is to develop systems that promote healthy personal and social outcomes for the persons and communities involved, are interconnected and in harmony with the natural environment.

Soils

Healthy soils are the basis of all land systems and therefore to be at the centre of all planning and management. The following services are available from us to help you create and maintain healthy soils by assessing your soils and creating soil care plans.

Assessment:

To examine the structure of your soils on various portions of the site, we combine soil profiling and aggregate stability testing. This can aid in locating any regions of compaction and provide a basic idea of the site's soil's overall health and fertility. Additionally, we conduct testing to determine the following:
• Type of soil texture (i.e., proportion of silt, clay, and sand)
• Biology and the amount of soil organic matter (SOM)
• pH

Information and resources:
To assist you in thinking through your management alternatives, we can give information and resource connections.
• Min till management approaches
• Cover crops and leys
• Mulching
• Composts and bio-fertilisers
• Remediation – ie. Levels of intervention for seriously damaged soils.

Agroforestry
A significant portion of our work involves designing forest gardens, and we have a large portfolio of these projects on various scales, in various situations, and for various purposes. In addition to increasing biodiversity and providing long-term yields, forest gardens offer an area for carbon-positive food production that is low maintenance once they are established. They also make for attractive public spaces.

Silvo-pasture is another type of agroforestry system that combines the growth of tree crops with pasture for grazing, hay, and/or biodiversity.

Growing vegetable, cereal, grain, and oil seed crops in 'alleys' between rows of tree and/or shrub plants is known as "alley cropping."

Education
We conduct classes, offer instruction, and create learning programs based on a comprehensive and inclusive philosophy. We offer a variety of permaculture courses, such as:
• Permaculture Design Course
• Ecology
• Organic Gardening
• Soil
• Kitchen Gardening
• Introduction to Permaculture

For providers of higher education, we also create learning initiatives with content for undergraduate and graduate programs.

What we can do for you is
• Course Development
• Syllabus Design
• Interactive Workshops
• Teaching
• Staff Training
