Connecting People & Place

Organizations, community organizations, enterprises, families, and individuals can use our consultation services. Our consultations, which are based on the ethics and tenets of permaculture design, work to encourage the development of resilient local food systems and aesthetically pleasing, productive, and biodiverse landscapes. Individual urban lots, small farms, urban public areas or subdivisions, community or governmental projects, and initiatives may all fall within this category.

A whole-systems approach.

In contrast to conventional landscape design, a permaculture approach aims to maximize the functional interactions between all of the living and non-living components of the design, including the human occupants. Permaculture designs take into account aesthetics and beauty, just like traditional landscape designs, but they also aim to produce other yields like food production, medicinal plants, water harvesting, enhanced biodiversity, income generation and economy, energy, vibrant community life, and any other yields desired by the locals.

PERMACULTURE DESIGNS INVOLVE THE CAREFUL INTEGRATION OF THE FOLLOWING ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
• Energy (solar energy that the system captures and recycles)
• Water (recycled throughout the system after being collected from rain fall)
• Soil (which is given life by restoring the organic matter cycles and the amazing diversity of species therein);
• Plants, both annual and perennial, native and exotic, utilized for food and a variety of other things.
• Animals (including small cattle, wild species, pollinators, and soil organisms)
• Useful technology (green structures, energy infrastructure, greenhouses, etc.)
• People (people who occupy the land, nearby neighbors, and the community)

In order for them to function as naturally occurring ecosystems do—with closed loop cycles, complex and diverse interrelationships, each element playing a variety of roles in the system, and the creation of balance—they must be thoughtfully and appropriately placed.

A little yard or balcony, a suburban property, a small or large farm, a community, or a city can all use permaculture systems. There are never two identical permaculture designs because each system's setting, targeted yields, and aesthetic choices will be unique. We are able to work with you on a permaculture design for your urban yard, acreage or small farm or community space.

A chat and questionnaire are the first steps in the design process, which is then followed by a site visit to make comprehensive observations, assessments, and measurements as well as to have more conversations with persons who are residing at or using the site. The outcome is a scale sketch that you can use for the project's installation phase.

Some clients only require a quick consultation to get them started on creating the idea they have in mind. Others opt to incorporate our ongoing service and support into their project as a whole.

We can support the installation of your permaculture landscape in the following ways:
• Taking you on a tour of your property to assist you understand what is there already and what might be added in the future.
• Assisting you in developing a realistic vision for your project.
• Creating an all-encompassing design for your house.
• Participating in the installation of the entire project as a contractor
• Serving as a consultant to a builder or other group of installers who might lack the necessary knowledge to complete the job.
• Collaborating with you to plan a workshop and work-bee event that would give community members a chance to learn as well as a supervised volunteer workforce to finish a section of your project.
• Installation of woodland gardens with edible plants
